Where are you trying to create a folder? In some occasions (when using runas or some networked drives) the folder is not automaticly refrefreshed after creating a file or folder. In that case you easily refresh the windows by pressing F5. Also, you need privileges to create files when you are creating folders. For troubleshooting try creating a new file. If that doesn't work either, the issue is not in the button. If you suspect the button (or any other windows compononent) is not working you can try following steps: restore the system to a state in which it worked using system restore revert System files to their originals by using sfc MCSA/MCTS/MCP

First of all, thank u for ur reply! The "New folder" button doesn't work in any areas except in Libraries. And I have all privileges to create files and folders, cause i can create, copy, cut & paste files and i can create folders by right-clicking. I following the steps you provided, and the results are: "System Restore": My "system restore" is turned off by me long time ago, so this means doesn't work; and I run the command "sfc /scannow", it display "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.". So can you provide other means except reinstalling Windows 7.

Please consider these kinds of scenarios when you turn off system restore! I cannot provide you a genious fix if some kind of Windows component is damaged; it can be very hard to determine what goes wrong and I would need the possibility to look at it irl. In the perspective of what goes wrong, you might consider uninstalling recently installed softwrae and checking the system for viruses and spyware. However, if a component is damaged, there are no guarantee that taking awy the cause will repair the damage. To be short: if you are not very experienced in Windows troubleshooting, the fastest solution will probably be to reinstall Windows and/or restore a backup.MCSA/MCTS/MCP

Thanks, next time after installing windows I will turn on this "system restore' function.:) I am thinking is this button linking to some keys in Registry. Maybe some operations damage the Registry.

One possibility, do you have Bazaar installed?Rich The only two things that are infinite in size are the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not completely sure about the universe. - Albert Einstein

I have tried all the fixes in the above suggestion to no avail. The only way I can create a new folder is if the folder is included in a library. Otherwise, I have to go to the command prompt and use the MD command. The new folder button seems to work, but no new folder is created unless, like I stated, I am withen a library. I really do not want to reinstall Windows, because I upgraded from Vista, and since then I have installed thousands of Windows Updates including Service Pack 1.John Baker
